Purpose: U.S. NATIONAL TEAM QUALIFIER. Men's and
Women's Open semi-finalists earn positions on the team, and qualify
for international competition through semi-annual "team trials."
Also encourages development of racquetball as a lifetime sport, with
additional competitive age divisions offered in five-year increments
between 19+ and 85+, along with skill divisions [A,B,C,D] playoffs. An
overall "state team championship" trophy is also awarded.
World Championships and Pan American Games Qualifier. When
applicable (at selected events preceding each World Championships the
Pan American Games), the top two Men's and Women's open finishers
qualify for the World and Pan American Games U.S. Team squads.
- Established: 1968
- Frequency: Annual (In May, over Memorial Day weekend)
- Entrants: 600 - 800
- Eligibility: Entrants must be USRA
members and qualify for participation by competing in a
preliminary regional singles event. In age division competition,
players must meet the proper age requirement as of the first day of
the tournament.
- Awards: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Consolation awards in all
divisions, plus state team trophy.
- Judging: Competition conducted in single elimination championship
rounds, with consolation bracket for first-round losers.
- Conditions: USRA rules govern, including
mandatory protective eyewear
requirement. Players must pre-qualify by competing in a regional
event.
