Qualifying
Procedures: [Effective 03/01/03] In order to earn an appointment to the U.S. National
Team, benchmark performances must be reached at selected
qualifiers. Currently, the team is made up of:
- A top professional from each
tour (1 each, IRT/male & LPRA/female = 2)
- The top-three (3) finishers
from the U.S. National Singles Championships
(3 each, male & female = 6)
- Finalists from the U.S.
National Doubles Championships
(4 teams/2 each, male & female = 8)
- Intercollegiate National
champions (1 each, male & female = 2)
By reaching these benchmarks,
individuals are appointed to the U.S. Team for a term of one year,
and are then added to a pool of athletes, from which international
competitive squads are selected, by event [see expanded selection
procedures]. U.S. Team members are bound by U.S. Olympic
Committee anti-doping policies [www.usantidoping.org].
NOTE: U.S.Team appointments are
made for one year from the date earned -- meaning that those athletes who
qualified in one year remain on the team until they either re-qualify - or fail
to do so - at the following year's event. Athletes may also re-qualify at the
next available opportunity, thereby "double-qualifying" and extending their
current appointments accordingly. |
