U.S. Team: Head Coach
The position of Head Coach for the U.S. National Racquetball Team entails the following responsibilities:

1. Select and recommend the Assistant Coach, subject to approval by the U.S. Team Committee and the USRA Board of Directors.

2. Communicate with the Board of Directors, U.S. Team Liaison, and the U.S. Team Committee regarding team selection, disciplinary actions, trip assignments, etc.

3. Establish coaching philosophy and responsibilities of the coaching staff, including the division of assignments.

4. Maintain lines of communication with all U.S. Team Members in regard to their training and responsibilities.

5. Help establish training programs for team members to follow when not in competition.

6. Attend the necessary competitions as designated by the Team Committee and the USRA Board of Directors.

7. Help conduct the team training camp and oversee the selection of athletes to represent the USRA at each of the competitions.

8. Work with the Team Leader and Team Liaison to ensure that all trips are handled in an efficient manner, so that the athletes are afforded the opportunity to compete under the best conditions.

9. Work with the individual athletes as needed in terms of their strengths and weaknesses relative to the team. Help team athletes set goals so they can achieve success and be the best representatives of the USRA program.

10. Maintain leadership of the team so each of the members will understand that they answer directly to the Head Coach when there are issues or concerns about training, reports, behavior, etc.

U.S. Team Assistant Coach
Assistant coaches are expected to provide input, and support, to all of the functions of the Head Coach (listed above). A separate set of duties and responsibilities are provided by the Head Coach, on appointment.
U.S. Team Leader
This job description outlines the responsibilities of a Team Leader at any function to which the USRA sends a team, and may be used as the basis for selection. The title of Team Leader should be used in reference to persons assigned to the following duties:

1. The Team Leader will work in conjunction with the Team Liaison and Head Coach in planning team participation and for coordination of services at the competition site. The Team Leader is directly responsible to the Head Coach.

2. The Team Leader will work with the Team Liaison and Head Coach to coordinate the following, in the period from team departure until return to the United States:

  • Transportation arrangements
  • Housing
  • Food
  • Tickets
  • Attendance by appropriate delegation personnel at all technical meetings for their sport
  • Passport and accreditation of personnel

3. The Team Leader must be on hand, at a minimum, from the day before the team begins its tour until the departure of the delegation's last athlete from the competition site.

4. The team leader must be a USRSA certified stringer (recognized by the USRSA and USRA) and, under the direct leadership of the Head Coach, will provide the following support services to U.S. Team contingents during competition:

  • Survey each team member regarding string type, tension, special requirements, etc.
  • Make sure each athlete's equipment needs are fulfilled (i.e. string, grips)
  • Obtain all necessary stringing supplies from manufacturers or suppliers.
  • Travel to designated events as assigned by the USRA, and be present as scheduled by head coach.
  • Provide services to athletes (i.e. beverages, towels) as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Display an ability to establish a harmonious relationship with athletes, coaches and administrators.
  • Display an ability to work under the direction of the Head Coach and within the framework of the USRA guidelines.
  • Will be responsible, as necessary, for all competition follow up regarding submission of expense reports and official results to the national office.

5. In order to be selected to the position of Team Leader, an individual must have: 

  • Experience and proven ability in leading teams at the National and, preferably, International level.
  • Proven ability to establish harmonious relationships with athletes and other team personnel.
  • Proven ability to manage crisis situations as well as routine administrative duties.
