E-Force U.S. Intercollegiate Championships Set to Begin in College Station, Texas
The 2002 E-Force 30th United States Racquetball Association [USRA] Intercollegiate Championships presented by Head/Penn Racquet Sports are set to begin Wednesday in College Station, at the beautiful Texas A&M student recreation center. Nearly 200 of the nation's best intercollegiate racquetball players, representing over 30 colleges and universities, will participate in the tournament which runs through Sunday. One-year appointments to the U.S. National Team are up for grabs for the winners of the men's and women's No.1 singles champions. Additionally, National Championship trophies will be awarded to the best division I and division II racquetball squads.

Defending men's champion Shane Vanderson (Baldwin Wallace College, Berea, Ohio) will attempt to keep his spot on the national team with a win this week. Vanderson's toughest challenge should come from freshman Jack Huczek (Oakland College, Rochester Hills, Mich.) who is the current U.S. National singles champion. Regional rivals Vanderson and Huczek have a long history of exciting, crowd-pleasing matches against each other including a marathon tiebreaker at the U.S. OPEN this past November, which Huczek won.

Kristen Walsh (University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah) transferred from Baldwin Wallace after her win last year and has her sights set on a repeat. Ironically Krystal Csuk (Berea, Ohio), a first year student at Baldwin Wallace, earned the No. 2 seed and represents Walsh's toughest obstacle.

Baldwin Wallace has five returning starters from last years championship team, and have also added solid players like Csuk and Joe Linnell (Berea, Ohio), which make them a favorite to repeat. Expected to challenge Baldwin Wallace are perennial powerhouses University of Southern Colorado (Pueblo, Colo.), University of Memphis (Memphis, Tenn.), and Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah). Host Texas A&M (College Station, Texas) and last years E-Force Intercollegiate women's team champions University of Texas (Austin, Texas) also expect to challenge for titles.
