The world's best collegiate racquetball players will converge on Tempe, Ariz., next week for the International Racquetball Federation's E-Force 28th World Intercollegiate Championships presented by Penn Racquet Sports, which will be held at the Arizona Athletic Club, April 5-9. More than 30 universities and colleges will be represented at the event, which will host more than 230 athletes.

With both of last year's #1 singles champions, Canada's Christie Van Hees (Simon Fraser Univ.) and Mexico's Luis Bustillos (Univ. of Southern Colorado), opting to pursue careers on the pro circuit, the top singles divisions will be up for grabs. U.S. Junior National Team-members Josh Tucker (Missouri Southern State Univ.) and Shane Vanderson (Baldwin Wallace College) will be hoping to pick up a first intercollegiate title, but Erin Brannigan (Southern Colorado Univ.) will also be a top contender for the men's #1 singles crown.

Another junior national team member, Brooke Crawford (Santa Clara Univ.), will be vying for the women's #1 singles title, but will meet tough competition from Rhonda Rajsich (Stephen F. Austin Univ.), Jo Shattuck (Univ. of Southern Colorado) and Mexican National Team-member Susy Acosta. Rajsich, a two-time national high school singles champion, is a two-sport all star, earning several accolades for her basketball talents, which have earned her a position on the Stephen F. Austin University women's basketball team.

The University of Southern Colorado will seek for its third consecutive overall team title, while the Brigham Young University team will aim for its sixth consecutive women's team title. After earning 37 team titles since the championships inception, the University of Memphis has been unable to add to their title collection since 1994, when its women's team last captured the title. Head coach Larry Liles is looking to end the university's losing streak at this year's championships after a successful recruiting season last year, during which he added Mexican National Team-member Javier Moreno and U.S. Junior National Team-member Jeffrey Garner to the University of Memphis team.

Action will kick off Wednesday, April 3, in Tempe, Ariz., at the Arizona Athletic Club, with some matches also being played at L.A. Fitness. Titles in six singles and three doubles divisions for men and women and three mixed doubles divisions will be up for grabs, in addition to Division I and II men's, women's and overall team titles.
