The U.S. Pan Am Games Racquetball Team stole the show in Winnipeg, and the spotlight, from many of the Canadian players. Although Winnipeg-native Sherman Greenfeld garnered much of the media’s attention, it was a shot of Michael Bronfeld celebrating as Greenfeld hung his head that was the dominant art in the Winnipeg Free Press after Bronfeld’s semifinal victory over the world champion ...

Bronfeld was not the only U.S. team member in the spotlight. Men’s doubles-player Doug Ganim was featured in the Colorado Springs Gazette in an article by Olympic-writer Kamon Simpson. In the story, which was accompanied by a large photo of Ganim and partner Drew Kachtik’s gold-medal win over Canada’s Kelly Kerr and Roger Harripersad, Simpson wrote about Ganim’s fight to overcome an elbow injury at the Games and his ongoing struggle to help the sport of racquetball grow in popularity. Ganim was also the topic of a feature in the Cleveland Plain Dealer during the Games. All the U.S. team’s matches were picked up by USA Today and the Associated Press at the Pan Am Games...

Ganim continued to grab the media’s attention with a feature article on he and partner Dan Obremski in the July/August issue of The Olympian magazine, the official publication of the U.S. Olympic Committee...

U.S. Pan Am Team coach Jim Winterton’s retirement from the U.S. National Team at the conclusion of the Pan Am Games was reported on the CNN/SI web site. Winterton is the most successful coach in USRA history...

There have been lots of racquetball faces in the crowd in recent months, as Sports Illustrated highlighted Lee Graff and Heather Dunn and Sports Illustrated for Women spotlighted Cheryl Gudinas in their “Faces in the Crowd” sections. Graff, of Portland, Ore., was in the July 12 issue for winning the U.S. National Singles 60+ Championships, his third-straight victory a major tournament. Dunn grabbed the spotlight in the Aug. 16 issue for her title-winning victory in the U.S. National Singles 25+ Championships, while Gudinas became the first-ever racquetball player to be featured in the new Sports Illustrated for Women magazine for capturing her first U.S. National Singles Championships open title...

Fran Dudenhoeffer was in an article in the Colorado Springs Gazette, Aug. 19, for capturing gold at the Colorado Senior Games...

Tami Evers’ work to increase interest in racquetball was the topic of a feature in the Greeley (Colo.) Tribune, July 13. Evers has created a web site, www.meetandplay.com, where racquetball players can find playing partners in their hometowns or while they are on the road.
