Lisa GoldmanLisa B. Goldman

My qualifications include: A M.S. degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, twenty plus years experience as a counselor and consultant working in the private sector, for State agencies, and for the last eight years in a self-employed capacity. I am on the board of directors for the foundation, Art has Heart, founded by Amado Peña. The foundation has successfully raised money to provide numerous scholarships to minority art students in the southwest. Additionally, I am an executive member of the Caballeros del Sol, the inter-city commerce and trade committee of the Tucson Chamber of Commerce. I believe I have good organizational skills, writing skills, interpersonal skills, and I work well as part of a team toward shared goals. I offer my skills and commitment to work diligently on behalf of the USRA board.

I have a loyalty and love for racquetball that has remained strong over the 20 years I’ve been playing as an amateur. Serving on the USRA board would afford me an opportunity to work with others to promote our sport. I am interested in working to see racquetball achieve Olympic competition status and in working very hard to see racquetball grow on a grass roots level.

To this point, my experience and involvement with the USRA is primarily with the Junior players. I have dedicated the past 7 years helping develop, support, and promote Oregon Junior Racquetball. The OJRA has achieved two levels of recognition: 1). Junior memberships of 300+, and an exclusive Junior Championship tour. 2) Six consecutive Olympic Junior National Team Championships, 1992-97. I am now ready to move forward, directing all energy supporting my nomination to the Board of Directors this May. Is John Giunta the right person to represent the membership? His history shows dedication to achieve success. As important as the people we vote for, voting is equally important: Please cast your voice.

The following summarizes my qualifications: 1999 HS National (3/6-8) Portland, Oregon: Committee Chair; 1998 Junior Olympic National (6/27-7/1) Portland, Oregon: Chair; Current: Oregon Racquetball Assoc. Board member (2 years); Current: USRA Junior Council member (3 years); Current: Region # 15 Junior Commissioner (5 years); Annual Leadership Conference Attendee (5 years); Current: OJRA Vice-President, Board member since 1991; Current: USRA member: 10 years;USRA national competition: 10 years.

In light of my complete involvement with racquetball, I believe that I am qualified to serve on the board of directors of the USRA. I am involved as a player, coach, state administer and retailer.

I am a co-founder of the California Amateur Racquetball Association, which sanctions almost 100 tournaments per year, and have served on the board since 1984. I have filled a number of offices, including two terms as president. Presently I keep the player rankings, which includes over 5,000 entries, and act as Commissioner of Rules and Officiating, conducting clinics for certification of officials. I believe that my many years of service on the board of the largest state association will serve well if I am elected to the USRA board.

In the retail business I own and operate RacquetBall Plus, the pro shop at Royal Athletic Club in Burlingame, CA. I would like to be elected to the board so that I can help direct the USRA toward further involvement with grass roots programs. I believe that more programs should be instituted in the clubs and YMCA’s because that is where the major number of USRA amateur members are. I also believe that programs should be developed to bring recreational and club league players into the USRA.

If elected, I pledge to continue my commitment to our great sport on the national level and become a voice for the age division players, men and women.

I am honored to have been accepted as a candidate for the national USRA board. Please pass along to the rest of the Nominating Committee my appreciation for considering me a worthy representative of the sport of racquetball.

My qualifications rest with my long time association with racquetball both as a player and club owner. I have been afforded the opportunity to see racquetball from different views.

One view has allowed me to look at this sport through the eyes of a recreational and competitive player. I have been involved in tournaments and league play throughout the United States. In 1996, I was able to travel to Japan to participate on the International level. I am also quite active at my own club, playing 3-4 times a week.

As a club owner, my business connections in the industry have given me the chance to see racquetball through the eyes of the club management professionals, club members and general public. It is this view that I believe is most important to the sport.

As a board member, my goal would be to see how racquetball needs to improve its fit in the health and fitness industry. Clubs like mine are our main resource and we need to look at what is needed to strengthen our position in clubs and with club members. I want to lend my club experience to the blueprint of racquetball’s future.

Thank you for your consideration and if you need anything further please do not hesitate to contact me at my business (816) 228-2722 or home (816) 229-1300.
